Answer Key: RL Circuit Exercise 4

1. Suppose a coil has an inductance of 0.500 H, and the frequency of the ac passing through it is 60.0Hz. What is the inductive reactance?
answer: 188.5 ohms

2. What will be the inductive reactance of a coil (inductance of 0.500 H) if the supply is a battery that supplies pure dc?
answer: That is, there will be no inductive reactance. Inductance doesn’t have any practical effect with pure dc.

3. If a coil has an inductive reactance of 100 ohms at a frequency of 5.00 MHz, what is its inductance?
answer: 3.18 µH

4. Suppose an RL circuit operates at a frequency of 1.0 MHz with a resistance of 10 ohms and an inductance of 90 mH. What is the phase angle?
answer: 90 degrees

5. Suppose the inductive reactance in an RL circuit is 680 ohms and the resistance is 840 ohms. What is the phase angle?
answer: 38.99 degrees
