ARCHIMEDES' Favorite Mathematical Proof

Archimedes of Syracuse (287 BC – 212 BC), a Greek mathematician, physicist, engineer, inventor, and astronomer had proven that the volume and surface area of the sphere are two thirds that of the cylinder including its bases (his favorite mathematical proof).

A sphere has 2/3 the volume and surface area of its
circumscribing cylinder. A sphere and cylinder were
placed on the tomb of Archimedes at his request.
