Electronics Technician (ECT) Licensure Awareness

On February 28, 2012, the IECEP-KSA-CRC conducted an Officer’s Meeting at Dr. Cafe – Khurais Road, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, during which a new committee was established specifically for the Electronics Technician Profession. This committee is the brainchild of collaborative ideas among IECEP-KSA-CRC's Officers, spearheaded by Engr. Jandee R. Bonifacio, aimed at expanding the organization's services to all Electronics Practitioners in the Central Region of Saudi Arabia.

The Committee is officially named Electronics Technician (ECT) Licensure Awareness, designed to facilitate recognition as Professionals in accordance with Republic Act No. 9292 - Electronics Engineering Law of 2004 in the Philippines. Its primary objective is to assist non-licensed Electronics Practitioners, particularly those who are not Electronics Engineering (ECE) Graduates, in obtaining the ECT License for acknowledgment as Professionals in the Philippines. The primary beneficiaries of this committee include Associate Members (Non-Licensed Electronics Practitioners) and the IECEP Organization as a whole.

The committee's activities include:
a) Encouraging non-licensed Electronics Practitioners in the Central Region of Saudi Arabia to register as Associate Members with IECEP-KSA-CRC.
b) Providing enlightenment to Associate Members about RA 9292.
c) Organizing FREE scheduled Studies/Reviews to prepare members for the Special Professional Licensure Board Examination (SPLBE).
d) Assisting Associate Members in filing applications for the ECT Licensure Exam with the PRC.

The committee is led by Engr. Catalino Criste as Chairperson, Engr. Jandee Bonifacio as Committee Head, Engr. Rito Banan and Registered Master Electrician Rene Gamurot as Committee Members.

The Republic Act No. 9292, also known as the Electronics Engineering Law of 2004, contains numerous provisions concerning the Electronics Technician Profession. One such provision within the Act is:

ARTICLE III - EXAMINATION, REGISTRATION AND LICENSURE; SEC. 14. Qualifications for Examinations. - In order to be allowed to take the examination for Electronics Engineer or Electronics Technician, an applicant must, at the time of the filing of his/her application, establish to the satisfaction of the Board that: (d) For the Electronics Technician examinations:

(1) is a graduate of an Associate, Technician, Trade or Vocational course in electronics or, subject to the evaluation of the Board, such equivalent and/or related formal or non-formal course or program from any school, college, university or training institution recognized by the Government or the State where it is established, after completing a resident course or program of not less than two (2) years, or

(2) has completed at least the minimum third-year equivalent of a Bachelor of Science program in Electronics and Communications Engineering or Electronics Engineering program according to CHED guidelines, or, subject to the evaluation of the Board such equivalent and/or related engineering course or program from any school, institute, college or university recognized by the Government or State where it is established.

On Friday, March 2, 2012, the FREE Studies/Reviews in preparation for the Special Professional Licensure Board Examination (SPLBE) commenced. Five IECEP-KSA-CRC Officers/Reviewers and eight interested Non-Licensed Electronics Practitioners attended the session. The Committee is confident that it can achieve a 100 percent pass rate for ECT Board exams if all its members take this program as seriously as the committee does.

If you are a Non-Licensed Electronics Practitioner residing in the Central Region of Saudi Arabia, join IECEP-KSA-CRC to take advantage of this noble program and have the opportunity to attain professional recognition in the Philippines.
